As a former elected state legislator, I get asked quite often whom I am supporting for Governor. In this year’s election, my choice is clearer than ever: independent Terry Hayes. I had the honor and privilege to serve four years in the Maine House of Representatives with Terry and can personally attest to her integrity, work ethic and ability to bring people together.
Terry was a mentor for me as I began my first term as a State Representative. She was the organizer of the bipartisan Growth Caucus, urging both sides of the aisle to come together and discuss ideas, develop relationships, and find common ground on a wide variety of issues.
Terry was elected as the first independent State Treasurer by Republicans and Democrats in the legislature. In her treasury role, she has returned more money in unclaimed property than any previous treasurer to date. Terry’s fiscal responsibility is evident by the fact that our state is better off now financially than it was when she took office.
Augusta has become extremely partisan, and it’s getting in the way of moving Maine forward. If we elect another partisan Governor, we will stay stuck in this stagnant situation for another four years. Or we can elect a non-partisan, dynamic problem solver with the experience and fortitude to lead Maine in a better direction. Please join me and vote for Terry Hayes on November 6 and put this woman in the Blaine House!
