SOUTH PORTLAND, ME -- Independent Terry Hayes and Republican Shawn Moody squared off in a head-to-head, nearly two-hour debate on WGAN this morning moderated by Ken Altshuler and Matthew Gagnon. Democrat Janet Mills canceled her previously confirmed participation last night.

In the debate, which covered topics ranging from education funding to reforming the initiative process, Hayes highlighted components of her newly released “5 Step Plan to Grow Maine’s Economy,” and talked about her “5 Big Ideas” to improve Maine’s economy and quality of life without breaking the bank.
The Hayes campaign also responded to the latest attack ad against their candidate, the most recent one paid for by out-of-state Democratic groups and labor unions.
“Democrats and Republicans are dumping millions of dollars into our state to pay for attack ads. Their campaigns are indicative of how they would do the job if elected. Maine can’t afford more partisan fighting and gridlock,” said Hayes for Maine campaign manager Kyle Bailey. “Terry Hayes is sharing her positive message with Maine voters and listening to their hopes and concerns, and will lead just like she’s campaigned.”
